Swiss Patty Melts

I grew up in Leominster, MA and we had a Friendly’s in town.  I used to get their swiss patty melts all the time.  It is the perfect combination of burger and crispy grilled cheese.  Great for a Football game day lunch!

Ingredients
  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef
  • ½ onion, sliced thin
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Butter
  • 8 Slices Rye Bread
  • 8 Slices Swiss Cheese
Instructions
  1. Form the beef into 4 patties. Try to make them into a rectangular shape so that they are similar shape to the rye bread. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a saute pan and add the oil to the pan. Add the burgers and in the corner, add the onions. Stir the onions.
  3. Cook the burgers for 4 minutes on each side and remove from pan. Remove the onions.
  4. Wipe the bottom of the pan. Butter 4 slicesof the bread, add to the pan. Add a slice of cheese to each slice of bread, top with the burger, then onions, add a dash of worcestershire, add the second slice of cheese and finally, add the last slice of buttered bread.
  5. Cook the "grilled cheese burger" on both sides until golden brown.
  6. Slice and serve with ketchup if desired.
